Best Irish marketplaces in 2026: an honest decision guide

By The Sellinn Editorial Team · Published 22 May 2026 · Updated 30 Sept 2026

There's no single "best" Irish marketplace. The right one depends on what you're selling, who you're selling to, and how much you're willing to pay in fees. This guide compares eight platforms Irish sellers use — DoneDeal, Adverts.ie, Vinted, Depop, Facebook Marketplace, SalesHub.ie, iSold.ie, and Sellinn — honestly, with their real strengths and weaknesses.

A note on this guide: Sellinn published this article, and Sellinn appears in it. We've tried to be fair — Sellinn doesn't claim to be "the best", and we acknowledge where competitors are stronger. If you spot anything inaccurate, email us at hello@sellinn.ie and we'll update it.

Quick decision guide

If you're not sure which to pick, here's the honest shortcut:

Selling a car or motorbike
DoneDeal. It owns this category in Ireland — start there first.
Selling trendy or branded fashion
Vinted for volume; Depop if it's vintage or Gen Z streetwear. Sellinn if you want zero fees on either side.
Selling furniture or bulky items
Facebook Marketplace for local pickup reach, or Adverts.ie if you want an Irish community. Sellinn works too — no shipping fees on collection.
Selling electronics, kids gear, books, sports
Adverts.ie, DoneDeal, or Sellinn. All three handle these well; Sellinn is the only one with zero seller fees.
You want a rewards/points system for free bumps
SalesHub.ie runs a points programme for activity, reviews and referrals. Sellinn does the same thing through referrals specifically — refer a friend who makes their first sale, get a free bump.
You want zero fees, full stop
Sellinn. No listing fee, no commission, no buyer charge. Honest disclosure: we're the smallest of the eight platforms in this guide.
You want the biggest possible audience
Vinted (fashion) or Facebook Marketplace (everything). Sellinn cannot match these on raw reach yet.

The eight platforms, honestly

DoneDeal

donedeal.ie · Founded 2005 in Wexford · Owned by Schibsted (Norway)

DoneDeal is Ireland's largest online marketplace and the default starting point for cars, farming equipment, property, and larger goods. Founded by Fred and Geraldine Karlsson in Wexford in 2005, it was acquired by Schibsted, a Norwegian media group, in 2011. Most listings are free, with paid premium options for visibility.

Where it shines

  • Unmatched reach in Ireland for cars and farming
  • Established trust — most Irish people have used it
  • Free for most listings

Where it's weaker

  • Foreign-owned (Schibsted, Norway)
  • Premium placement upcharges add up for active sellers
  • Less polished for fashion than Vinted or Depop

Adverts.ie

adverts.ie · Founded 2006 in Dublin · Owned by Distilled Media (Irish)

Adverts.ie has been a fixture of the Irish online marketplace scene for nearly 20 years. Launched by Boards.ie in 2006 and now operated by Distilled Media (also Irish-owned), it covers virtually every consumer category. Listing and selling is free for regular sellers; only shop/business accounts pay a small per-listing fee.

Where it shines

  • Long-established Irish community with user-feedback system
  • Irish-owned (Distilled Media, Dublin)
  • Broad category coverage

Where it's weaker

  • Interface feels dated next to newer apps
  • Payment and delivery arranged privately, off-platform
  • Smaller fashion audience than Vinted

Vinted

vinted.ie · Launched in Ireland November 2024 · Owned by Vinted UAB (Lithuania)

Vinted is a Lithuanian fashion-focused marketplace that arrived in Ireland in late 2024 and has rapidly become the default for Irish second-hand clothing. Over 29 million monthly active users across the EU. Sellers keep 100% of the sale price; buyers pay a service fee (€0.70 + 5% of item price).

Where it shines

  • Massive EU audience for fashion sellers
  • Strong buyer protection via service fee
  • Polished mobile app

Where it's weaker

  • Fashion-only — not for furniture, electronics, etc.
  • Buyer service fee can make small items feel expensive
  • Lithuanian-owned, not Irish

Depop

depop.com · Founded 2011 · Owned by Etsy (United States)

Depop is the Gen Z streetwear and vintage fashion marketplace, owned by Etsy since 2021. Especially strong for one-of-a-kind, branded, and Y2K-era clothing. Important note for Irish sellers: while Depop removed the 10% seller fee for US and UK users in 2024, that change did not extend to Ireland — Irish sellers still pay the 10% commission plus payment processing.

Where it shines

  • Targeted audience for streetwear and vintage
  • Global reach (mostly US, UK, AU buyers)
  • Strong social-feed-style discovery

Where it's weaker

  • 10% seller fee still applies in Ireland
  • US-owned; smaller Irish-specific community
  • Niche audience — not for general goods

Facebook Marketplace

facebook.com/marketplace · Owned by Meta (United States)

The biggest local-first marketplace by far, thanks to Meta's user base. Best for items you can hand over locally — furniture, white goods, larger objects that are awkward to ship. No fees, but also no platform mediation: scams are common, and there's no formal buyer protection. Use cash on collection and never ship to a buyer who refuses to meet.

Where it shines

  • Largest local audience in Ireland
  • Free to list, free to buy
  • Strong for furniture, white goods, local pickup

Where it's weaker

  • Frequent scams — high vigilance required
  • No platform-mediated buyer protection
  • Meta-owned, all your data goes to Facebook

SalesHub.ie

saleshub.ie · Irish local classifieds · Ownership not publicly disclosed

SalesHub.ie is a newer Irish classifieds platform covering all 32 counties, free to list with no seller commission. Its standout feature is a rewards/points system: users earn points for creating an account, posting listings, giving and receiving reviews, and referring friends, then spend those points renewing or bumping listings to the top. It also has a native Android app on Google Play, and runs its own set of "where to sell" guides similar to this one.

Where it shines

  • Free listings, no commission — same pitch as Sellinn
  • Points-based rewards for everyday activity, not just referrals
  • Native Android app

Where it's weaker

  • Newer platform — smaller established audience than DoneDeal or Adverts.ie
  • No iOS app found at time of writing
  • Ownership and company details aren't published on the site

iSold.ie

isold.ie · Irish general marketplace · Ownership not publicly disclosed

iSold.ie is a general Irish marketplace covering a wide category spread — cars, property, electronics, furniture, antiques, books, and more — free for private sellers to list, with some paid placement for certain business categories. It also runs a "Deals" section with daily discounts alongside the classifieds listings.

Where it shines

  • Free for private sellers
  • Broad category range, including property
  • Deals section is a point of difference from a plain classifieds board

Where it's weaker

  • Newer platform — smaller established audience than DoneDeal or Adverts.ie
  • Some categories carry paid placement fees
  • Ownership and company details aren't published on the site

Sellinn

sellinn.ie · Launched April 2026 · Irish-owned, independent

Sellinn is the platform publishing this article, so take this section with appropriate scepticism. We launched in April 2026 as an Irish-owned alternative to the foreign-owned platforms that dominate the market. Zero fees on both sides — no listing fee, no commission, no buyer service charge. All 32 counties, all categories. We're the smallest of the eight platforms in this guide — we don't pretend otherwise.

Where it shines

  • Truly zero fees — sellers keep 100%, buyers pay no service charge
  • Irish-owned and independent
  • Every category, all 32 counties
  • Web + installable PWA on iOS and Android
  • Import existing Vinted, eBay or Depop listings in seconds — no retyping

Where it's weaker

  • Smallest user base of the eight — fewer eyes on listings
  • No native mobile app yet (PWA only)
  • Brand-new, less established trust than DoneDeal or Adverts

💡 The honest version

Most active Irish sellers use more than one platform — and multiplying your reach is the single biggest driver of faster sales. Cars on DoneDeal, fashion on Vinted, furniture on Facebook Marketplace, mixed items on Adverts.ie or Sellinn. Cross-listing the same item across two or three platforms genuinely doubles or triples the eyes on it.

One Sellinn-specific advantage worth knowing: paste the link to a live Vinted, eBay or Depop listing into Sellinn's Sell form and the title, description, price and photos fill in automatically — no retyping, no re-photographing. That makes cross-listing onto Sellinn the lowest-friction option of the six.
